How to play Spot On

Spot On is a free score-prediction game for groups of friends. One person starts a pool for a competition, everyone else joins with a link, and each player calls every game before kick-off. A live table shows who knows their sport best.

1. Start or join a pool

A pool is a private league for one competition. To start one, open Spot On, type your name, choose a competition and give the pool a name. You get a six-character code and a share link to drop in your group chat. Friends open the link, type a name and they are in: no account or app store needed.

You can be in several pools at once, for different competitions or different groups of friends. The organiser can archive a pool at the end of the season and restore it later.

2. Make your predictions

3. Scoring

Each pool's organiser sets the points when creating it. In exact-score pools the defaults are 2 points for the exact score and 1 point for the right result (win, draw or loss). In pick-the-winner pools every correct pick scores the same. Knockout football games are scored at the end of normal or extra time; penalty shoot-outs do not count. NHL games count the final score, including overtime and shootouts.

The Table ranks everyone by points, then by number of exact scores. Results come in automatically, usually within about 15 minutes of full time.

4. Competitions

Pools are available for Premier League, EFL Championship, Women's Super League, Scottish Premiership, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Eredivisie, A-League Men, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, UEFA Nations League, NFL, NBA, NHL, Premiership Rugby. Each season's fixtures load automatically, kick-off times show in your own time zone, and new seasons are added before they start. See all competitions.

5. Reminders

Turn on reminders and Spot On sends a notification before kick-off for games you have not called yet, plus a last-chance nudge shortly before a game you have missed. On iPhone, add Spot On to your home screen first; that is how iOS allows web notifications.

6. Rivals, awards and sharing

Tap any player on the table to make them your rival and track your head-to-head all season: who scored more on each game you both called. Matchday awards (from Sharpshooter to the Wooden Spoon) fill a trophy cabinet, and a share card puts your rank and points in the group chat.

7. Your account and other devices

Your pools live on the device you play on. To use them on another phone or computer, add an email and sign in there with the emailed link or 6-digit code, or create a one-time restore code from the app. See the privacy page for what is stored.

Questions

Is Spot On free?

Yes. There is nothing to pay and no ads. If a pool plays for a pot, the organiser can track who has paid, but no money goes through Spot On.

Do my friends need an account?

No. They open your invite link, type a name and they are in. Adding an email is optional and lets you use the same pools on another device.

What is the difference between exact score and pick the winner?

In exact-score pools (football and ice hockey) you call the final score: the exact score earns the most points and the right result earns some. In pick-the-winner pools (NFL, NBA and Premiership Rugby) you tap the team you think wins, and every correct pick scores the same.

Can people see my picks before kick-off?

No. Picks stay hidden until each game kicks off and lock at kick-off, then everyone's predictions are revealed.

Do penalty shoot-outs count?

No. Knockout football games are scored on the result at the end of normal or extra time, so a 1-1 draw won on penalties counts as 1-1.

Can I join a pool after the season has started?

Yes. You can predict every game that has not kicked off yet.

How quickly do results come in?

Results arrive from the official fixture feed, usually within about 15 minutes of full time, and the table updates on its own.
